Three Just Getting Started FAQ's

Now we're going to share some F A Q 's which stands for Frequently Asked Questions.

We've helped a lot of individuals and businesses get started either with access or with designing and hosting their website. Here are just three FAQ's we get asked. Since you are reading this, you've got a good understanding that many folks don't. If you have a moment, share some of your insights with a "newbie" or Net wanna be....it's kind be just a tad confusing especially since there seems to be many terms used to describe the same thing AND they're sure to appreciate your time helping them over the first few hurdles of misunderstanding. If you have some good thoughts for Beginner's Corner, drop me a line.

FAQ#1 If someone sends me an email message and I'm not on-line that very moment, what happens?
When someone sends you email, it goes to an electronic mailbox and remains there until you log-on and check your mail. This could be hours or even days later.

FAQ#2 I can't have a website because I don't have a big computer to be connected to the Internet all the time, right?
That's where we come in. Being an ISP, we take care of the computer that makes your website available to the Internet Public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is commonly referred to as "Hosting your website". It is possible for you to host your own, but in all cases, the capital outlay as well as the fixed overhead will be much greater if you go this route.

FAQ#4 If I establish an online presence for my business, how many kinds of addresses will I have?
When you're just getting started, you'll have two kinds of addresses:
An email address and a website address
The email address is where people send electronic mail. A typical example would be rstaub@lunaweb.net with "rstaub" being the actual recipient and lunaweb.net being the particular domain.
The website address is where your website is located. This is the www.whatever.com. Depending on who you talk to, the website address is called a URL which stands for Uniform Resource Locator, and you will hear people call it a

  • "You Are El"
  • "Your'll"
  • "Earl"
I've even heard someone recently ask
"What's your Dot Com"
But they're all referring to the www.whatever.com
Thanks for tunin' in !
