Last week we touched on two "Browsers"
- The Netscape product called "Navigator" and
- Microsoft's Internet Explorer
Today we're talking about getting the most out of your browser. I'll be refering mostly to Netscape Navigator since it is by far the most popular browser.
Number One - Maximize the Browser window
Websites are designed to be viewed with your window maximized.
If your window isn't maximized, items on the webpage won't be lined-up correctly.
Number Two - Surf faster without spending an extra dime
You can set your browser so it doesn't automatically load the graphics or images on the web pages.
- To make this happen:
- Go to your menu at the top of the screen
- Click on Options
- Then Click on AutoLoad Images
Now, as you browse the web you won't have to wait on images to download.
Once you do get to a page where you'd like to see the images
Click on the Images button in your toolbar (which is located right there under the menu).
Out of all the tips we've ever given out to experienced users, people love this one the best. If you have a 14.4 modem, you're online experience will be much more efficient.
Number Three - Maximize the viewing window - Get rid of those directory buttons.
- Go to Options
- Click on "Show Directory Buttons"
- Now the buttons are gone
- but you can still get to those features by clicking on "Directory" in the menubar.
Those buttons were just taking up valuable screen space
AND
their is some confusion created by those buttons. Mainly, when users click on the browser's Net Search button, they think they are using Netscape as a search engine. This is not true. What they get is a webpage that provides a way of getting to some of the major search engines that may be paying for that listing.
