Signature File

Have you ever wondered what a "signature file" is? You may have run across the signature file option when looking through your email program's menu. A signature file is just a little bit of text that gets automatically added to the bottom of your email….(like a signature).

Many people take real advantage of the signature file by including their name, contact information, and especially the URL of their website if they have one. This can be a very helpful way of getting people to your site to learn more of what it has to offer, be it a commercial or personal interest website.

Here's how you do it.

To create a signature file use a simple text editor like notepad. Save the file and note the location where you save it. Then somewhere in your email program's menu, you will find where you specify the location of where your signature file is saved. (In Netscape this is located under Options then Mail and News Preferences).

Many people don't know that you can send yourself an email message. This is how you test it out. Send yourself an email, and then you will see the way your "sig-file" will appear to other people you email.
