Remote Mail Retrieval
Did you know that when you check your email, you have the option of retrieving only a copy of your messages? Absolutely. This is useful for when you are using someone elses computer AND you still want to be able to download the message when you get back to your own computer. People that use two computers also find this very useful (e.g. notebook / desktop or home computer / work computer).
This technique is similar to when you can call your home answering machine and retrieve voice messages but the message can still be on your machine when you get home.
You can do this with various
browsers by temporarily modifying a few settings.
In Netscape 2.0x - 3.0:
Change these three items:
The first two items are unique to you and your ISP. The third item ensures that your email will still be on the mail-server when you back to your computer.
Other email programs will have similar settings that you will need to temporarily modify. Big thing to remember here is that you want to make sure you restore the settings to the way you found them.
