Downloading

There are a wide variety of things to download from the Web. These can range from software packages like games, browsers or even just data like spreadsheets, or even financial report.

Anything you can put on a diskette can be downloaded from the Web.
When you're at a site with whatever you want to download. You select a file to download.

If you're using netscape, a little window pops up and presents you with some options. One of these is SAVE. That's the one you want to click.

When you do, yet another window will pop-up that asks you where you want to save the file (your hardisk or maybe even a floppy). Take note of where you save it or you'll have a hard time finding it later.

Many files will have a *.zip extension or "zip". You will need a program to un"zip" this kind of file. If you don't already have one, go to
www.shareware.com or
www.download.com

But remember these two things:

  • Only download Software from a reputable source AND
  • Shareware is not Freeware. Freeware is free, but shareware is out there for you to evaluate, and then pay for later if you like it.

Thanks for tunin' in !
